Miss Doreen Radloff was the Organizing Secretary (later re-named:Executive Officer) of the South African Nursing Association (SANA) for many years. The DENOSA archives in Pretoria contain numerous examples of letters, memorandums and reports bearing her name.
Miss Radloff was involved in two important events in the history of the ICN and the SANA. She was part of the SANA delegation that attended the 1959 ICN Board of Directors meeting in Helsinki, Finland where the SANA's eligibility to be an ICN member state was questioned. This was in relation to the then new Nursing Act 69 of 1957 that made provision for the racial segregation of SANA branches and meetings.
Miss Radloff was also a member of the SANA delegation that attended the 1973 ICN Congress in Mexico City. It was at this congress that the SANA was given an ultimatum to amend the Nursing Act (69 of 1957) by removing all reference to race - or face expulsion from the ICN. The SANA withdrew its ICN membership on 21 July 1973.
Attached is the announcement of Miss Radloff's passing.
